I’m always interested in buying good money domains. Recently, I found money / science <<dot>> net available and scooped it up. This was a nice find as .us, .biz, .mobi as well as the obvious others are all gone. I emailed the people at .ws to see if I could nab money.ws but unfortunately that one is not up for grabs. Darn. Someone at digitalpoint was selling money.cc. I solicited two xxx offers to them, but never received a reply. Who knows how much they’re asking - probably mid to high x,xxx but I still had to try. I’m very interested in money domains and writing about money so I’m always looking to buy on these. Right now I’m offering $150 bounty on NamePros WTB list for a good generic, but so far nothing has met my price/keyword expectations. If you have one you want to sell, send me an email.

Why bother with them? Godaddy currently has .biz at $15! Yikes. That’s awfully pricey for an extension that rarely yields $xx,xxx. If you’re in the quandry of whether or not to renew for $15, try transferring over to Name.com. Name.com is a lot more steady than Godaddy and currently has $7.99 transfers and renewals which amount to roughly $2.50 over the cost of a Godaddy renewal plus a flimsy 10% renewal code. If you keep that domain one more year, you just netted $5.50 as things stand. Even if Name.com rises $2, it’s still a better deal than one of, if not the most tricky registrar there is. I couldn’t even attempt to renew the domain without it defaulting to two years of renewal.

If you want to see an online example of gender influencing the amount someone is willing to pay, look at this domain auction. Don’t get me wrong, recipeblogger is a semi decent name and some or all of the bidders may actually want the name, but this story has played out many times before with the same auctioneer playing into the same bidder and that bidder throwing any frugality to the wind. But the bottomline - whatever the non-unethical methods - is all that matters. MG is making tens of dollars by playing to the crowd.

I take that bottomline comment back. Reputation matters too. I just wouldn’t feel right adding the cartoon commentary.

What was once a US virus has spread into a global epidemic. Our economic conditions are steadily reaching towards a market correction. On the way their, values will drop - on almost everything including domains. So what will happen to all the domains?

Many will drop - even decent ones as some of us are holding more than will be economically efficient to hang on to. Since the market is a relatively small niche, many domains will not be able to sell.

Throw aside your notions of what you think a domain is worth and start reevaluating in terms of what a reseller would pay. You must be realistic with yourself and your domains now if you will be significantly impacted by paying out $100s or $1000s of dollars. (I’m talking of course to those with 50+ domains.)

Remember that while domains are an intangible right to an Internet address, they are not a permanent property like stocks. Stocks do not require a 100% renewal fee each year. Neither do traditionally taxed items and holdings. So domains are not your traditional investment. They must be repurchased again and again as long as you hold them.

I advocate being realistic here and taking a loss where it is warranted. Example:

You have a domain that is worth about $25 in a “regular” reseller market before the economy became noticably frustrated. Let’s say you had GGQD.com. And this domain is amongst 300 you have tucked away in your GoDaddy account.

You know this domain along with 25 others have their registeration coming up in February of 09 at a tune of $7.50 a pop. You have no other ties other than reselling this domain and your pocket book is going to sting if you have to cough up another 187.50 in renewal fees to maintain what you already own.

If someone offers you $15, you should take it - even at a loss of what you bought it for.

This is because domains that are not gaining in value are liabilities, not assets. You incur a cost for owning these domains. This is a liability. Now, if you make more money than the cost of renewals, then the domain is an asset.

My recommendations for the current economic conditions and your domains:

1. Don’t hand reg anything. Wait because unless you find the gem of all gems, right now isn’t the time to be registering fresh domains.

2. If you’re not making money off your domains - attempt to. One option is to create a site and try to monetize it through SEO, selling links, and hoisting adsense to recoup potential renewal fees. A second option is to start actively seeking endusers via email and phone.

3. Sell if it makes sense. If you are getting a decent price for your domain that you would accept from a private solicitation, don’t become high and mighty on your domain worrying if you’re dealing with Apple and scare away a potential buyer with a $10,000 counter offer on a domain you would have sold on NamePros for $30.

4. If you’re reselling try to retrieve a fair price. Remember you’re no longer shooting for the sky if you need to sell in anticipation of an overabundance of renewals. You need to try to recover/attain profitability or at least maintain the bulk of your domains at a reasonable cost.

The silver lining in all of this is domain values - like anything else - are dropping fast and great bargains are available to those that can afford to hold on to domains. Keep your eyes open for deals to good to pass on while trying to carry a more manageable load of domains and getting respectable value on those that sale.

If you are a webmaster, you may have known that you can make money by selling domain names. A domain name that already built in with consistent can be very profitable to you. It may generate thousands of dollars of sale for the webmaster. In this article, you will find a few basic tips on how to make money online with domain names.

The first thing to do is you will need to do some researches to find a search engine keyword that is fairly high in popularity but still not too many websites use this keyword. You can do keyword research by using a keyword analyzer. For getting the quality result, you may want to use a good keyword research tool such as Word Tracker. You don’t have to pay first to use Word Tracker as it does offer a free trial version.

Once you found the good keyword, you may then buy a domain name and a web hosting package. You are just selling domain name but why do you need the web hosting as well? This is because you will be building a website on the domain and drive traffic to that website. Without a website on the domain name, there will be no visitors to return to the domain name. The traffic is important as it will mean profitability to you.

When you select your domain name, make sure your chosen keyword is included in the domain name. But in the case that your selected keyword has been taken by other people, you may try to add dash in between the few words of your domain name. Lets say you like to register the domain name ‘weightlossguide.com, but it has already been taken by a webmaster. What you can do is adding dash like weight-loss-guide.com. This way you will still get the chance to include your chosen keyword into your domain.

Then, you will need to build a website on the domain name. It doesn’t have to be top professional website. A simple, clean and informative website will be enough. Write quality content for the website. Make your site user friendly. While generating traffic and building the value of your domain name, you may sign up with Google AdSense program to display Google ads on your content pages. This way you will make some extra money every month.

When the set up process finished and your website is launch on the Internet. The next thing to do traffic-building. You can get some instant and initial traffic by advertising in pay per click search engine. But later you will have to put in effort to build up the inbound links of the website. Inbound links are those websites that link to you. Submit your free web directories, post your signature link on message boards and etc. Also, make use of article marketing. By publishing your article in numerous article directories, you can get hundreds of free inbound links gradually.

Keep on working on Internet marketing until you build up a steady stream of traffic. Once you obtain enough consistent traffic, you will get an Alexa rating. If the rating is good, search for a domain name appraiser and see how much your domain name can sell for. This will give you an idea of how much the domain name worth.

Once your domain name gets a good value, it is time to sell it for profit. There are several good places to sell your domain name. eBay auction is one of the good places. Sedo is another marketplace to find the potential domain name buyers.

It is just that they have added a lot of unnessecary clicks - 2 full page offers of stuff that I had to click a small ">post at NamePros by ShinySign. GoDaddy recently changed the design of its website but the trickery continues. While the console of the website has improved slightly in appearance, the move doesn’t help out patrons. The home page and all subsequent pages are still cluttered and bombard the visitor with unnecessary offers and promotions. When you attempt to purchase or renew a domain, you still get the same opportunities to upgrade this, save on that, add another product or service, etc. There are multilayers of these options that will slow down a first time user significantly and do cause me to pause every time I’m about to check out to make sure I didn’t add outrageous $8.99 private registration or a .biz for 10% off. And Godaddy knows the experienced domainer won’t fall for these tricks unless its by accident, but they also know someone who sees their commercial and goes to register a name has a good chance of thinking these add-ons are necessary or will really “save” them more money.

As far as the control panel for managing my domains, there is simply too much stuff going on there. GoDaddy should take note of the good work Name.com is doing. Here is an example of how disenchanted I have become with GD. Yesterday, I wanted to register a .com but the registry was performing maintenance or something to that effect on Name. GD was available for use. I elected to wait. Of course there is still the matter of $1 or less depending on the promo code prowess of this month’s Godaddy coupon, but the negligble price isn’t why I held off.

The domain spaghettimonster.com is in the center of an old fashion bidding war at NamePros.com. The question remains: Why? Spaghetti is a very narrow sub topic in the food industry and is also difficult to spell. Moreover, aren’t there better combo words with spaghetti available at this very moment for free? The name was created in 2005 so there might be some age factor i don’t know about, but I still don’t see it. The bidding is chiefly between two members, but some others have chimed in bids that were also unusually high. I must be missing something.
