Of course, price will be your primary consideration but you want to make sure you don’t buy a domian name from just any registrar. Some places to register a domainname have gone out of business. Others have had security breaches. Some just flat aren't trustworthy. Visit one of these websites and decide if you feel comfortable with the interface and customer service level.

You need to also check on the back end of any online specials for domain names. There are constantly $4.95 or $5.95 domain sales, but these can backloaded with high renewal fees which can blind side a beginner because domains are typically registered for one year and they don’t realize that renewal is necessary until it is too late to transfer out and they are stuck paying an exhorbitant $34.95 for a .com web address.

Another tip I have in this domain name blog is that your website name is very important as to how other people percieve your power, presence, trustworthiness, and reliability online - just like how you evaluated the registrars. Thus, I highly recommend you steer clear of hyphens, numbers, or other domain name extensions besides a .com or a .net. This is a general rule of thumb for beginners to registering a domain. Once you are better educated on domain name reputation and thoughts and opinions from those around the web and how the Internet treats and identifies with associated names, then you can make an informed decision. Unfortunately, many beginners and noobs starting their first domain name registation make mistakes against one of the guidelines I have set above and regret it after they build their website.

The problem is you can increase the value of a better domain that you could have bought for $50 or in a related situation, someone can go out and buy the better or plural or singular version of a domain and be able to in effect take some of your traffic away.
